Warmth of Friendship

It’s the day after Christmas and today’s WordPress photo challenge prompt is Warmth.  This is the perfect opportunity for me to share the warmth of friendship.Mustang Island State ParkWe had friends Mona Liza and Steve over for Christmas and just because we live in a RV doesn’t mean we can’t cook up a fine meal….. a meal that one might even refer to as gourmet.

Cozy warmth of our RV. Starting off with appetizer; Lumpia

While listening to the waves crashing in the distance in the cozy warmth of my tiny RV kitchen I managed to prepare a pork loin accompanied by sides of veggies and mashed potatoes.  ML prepared Lumpia, a Filipino dish, as our appetizer.

Al and Steve sit at the adult table while Mona Liza and Ingrid sit at the kids table…. 🙂

The wine and laughter flowed freely.  Our meal ended with one of my specialties; Bananas Foster.  Our guests were duly impressed with this flaming desert and even more impressed that a fire extinguisher wasn’t needed.Bananas FlambeWe had a lovely day even though the weather was a tad on the blustery and cool side.  That said, the weather didn’t curtail the two birding buds from taking a walk in search of photo ops.Bananas FosterI hope all my friends in the blogoshere had an equally special day shared with the warmth of family and friends.  Now my thoughts ponder….. “How can we possibly top this for a New Year’s celebration?”Herons

  1. Beautiful bird shot… I think you will one day be a serious birder yet! A lovely meal with good friends for Christmas in your cozy, comfy RV. Merry Christmas Ingrid and Al!!

  3. That looks like so much fun, Ingrid! Good friends and delicious food are a great combination.
Throw in a little birding, and that’s my kind of celebration. We’re just recovering from a few delightfully insane days with our 4-year old grandson, so I’m a bit behind in my blog reading. 🙂 Glad you guys are continuing to have such a wonderful time together. Your photo of the heron is amazing!

    • We did have a pretty great day and sounds like you did as well. A 4 year old at Christmas…. I’m sure was pure delight. What a fun age and special times, times to savor. Stay warm!

    • The weather in south Texas is not looking very favorable for the New Year’s Eve celebration. The cavorting may need to be postponed for fairer temps and clearer skies. Yes, we’re spoiled 🙂

  4. That looks like a great way to spend Christmas. I just found your blog through the WordPress photo challenge. We live in our RV too, and love every minute.

    • Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. I just went over to your blog and am now a follower. We too our enjoying this lifestyle very much 🙂

    • It was a very enjoyable day and I thank the Malouf’s for being my practice guinea pigs. The bananas foster turned out even better on the 2nd go around lol. Hope to see you guys again before we leave 🙂

    • The Lumpia was a first for me and it was yummy. Hubby is already hinting to Mona Liza that she needs to make them again. It was a lovely day 🙂

  5. Looks like a perfect little group for a wonderful Christmas dinner! Dennis and I did our famous ribs with cole slaw, potato salad and beans..The beans may have been the “deal breaker” for Santa riding that sleigh all the way back to the North Pole…wink wink!

  6. Thank you for the warmth – I can feel it through the screen. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year – love the shot of the crane the colors, texture, and framing are stunning.

  7. What a great time! And the Crane was stunning! Connie and Henry started off last week as full time RVrs. I think she is going a little bonkers trying to adjust from the large house to the confined space with a husband and two dogs. 😛

    • The first year on the road was a mix of emotions for me. It takes time to find a groove that works. It’s an individual thing. Best of luck to them and running into that crane was a treat.

  8. And to think I thought it was simply “fried bananas!” Just finised our Whole30 grocery list, pantry is cleaned out, and ready for the new year! Have a glorious one birding with your bestie 🙂

    • We move to Rockport on Monday and I’ll be defrosting the frig and reorganizing the pantry… starting fresh for the New Year. Here’s to a great New Year leaving 2014 behind 😉

  9. That heron shot is stunning! Our neighbors brought over some lumpia that their mother had made while visiting — had never ate it before and thought it was delicious! Looks like a perfect Christmas — Cheers to the rest of your holiday season!

    • Thank you Kat. The Lumpia was a first for me as well and it was so delicious. Good food and fun friends made for a perfect Christmas indeed. Cheers to you as well 🙂

  10. What a lovely post! And yes the warmth of our friendship also warmed us physically as we endured this not so nice weather here at the gulf. Hmm new year’s eve is just around the corner, I wonder how we can top that gourmet meal you have prepared 🙂
We thank you for sharing the spirt of christmas and were very glad we are nearby to enjoy it with you and Al.

    • Somehow I think we’ll be bumping into each other regularly over the next few years. It’s a lot easier to do when one stays west of the rockies 😉

    • I LOVE our RV. It’s a 2011 Keystone Laredo 266RL that we purchased new after looking at tons of RV’s. At 31′ long we’ve managed to squeeze into a lot of National Forests, National Parks, and State Parks that had we been much longer would’ve made those stops impossible. Having been a home builder, I knew exactly how I needed our RV laid out to accommodate OUR way of living.
Feel free to email me anytime if you’d like any other info. Hope you had an enjoyable Christmas 🙂

  11. What a lovely day you all had. Good food, good friends and on the road, what more can one ask?
If anyone is keeping track….Banana’s Foster is one of my all time favorites, just sayin….

Happy New Year to us all!

    • Nope, couldn’t ask for much more…. perhaps the weather could’ve been a tad better though. I see Banana’s Foster in your future this summer in Colorado 🙂
