When the word ‘relic’ popped up for this weeks photo challenge, I figured this was another opportunity to play around with some B & W photography.

I love it when conceptual blogs post something else than their usual posts. Awesome B&W photography, Ingrid.

Aw, thank you Rommel. Sometimes I’m just not in the mood to write.

I don’t know why I didn’t get an email about this post but glad I decided to go back and look at previous posts. I am really enjoying these B&W images. Perhaps this is your new specialty? 🙂

No! I’ll always be partial to color but playing around in Picasa has been fun. I’ve come to appreciate some photos actually look better or more appropriate in B & W …. much to my surprise 🙂

Looks like you found a niche, Ingrid. The middle photo has the best BW conversion. And we just visited Abraham Lincoln birthplace in KY, whose cabin/house is very similar to that cabin in your picture.

I’m a sucker for black and white: instant nostalgia and a perfect way to illustrate your great western looking relics!

I’ve just recently developed an interest in B & W photography. It does seem to work well for that antique look.

Black and white is just perfect for some photos — the texture and lines show up so well, especially in the photo of the cabin and the other structure (stone? adobe brick?).

Thanks Laurel. That stone structure was at the east entrance of the Grand Canyon and was very interesting. I’ve developed a long list of places I want to revisit 🙂

Thanks Sue. It’s funny, I never liked that cabin photo until I turned it into B & W. I think it depicts the feel better 🙂

Great photos – black and white is a good medium for the shots. Good choices on subjects – the log cabin and stone fort are perfect. The buggy and the road are stark contrasts to each other. Have a great week!

These are great shots… not that I’m a lover of B&W… but these do lend themselves towards the conversion…

Thanks Bulldog. I’m with you – partial to color, but every now and then the mood calls for a little B & W conversion 🙂

Seriously, great photos! B&W is a lot harder than it looks.

Beautiful shots Ingrid. I love the contrast and the subjects. You are a pro! Where was the “castle-like” photo taken?

Thank you. That was near the east entrance of the Grand Canyon…. can’t remember the name but it’s mentioned in the Grand Canyon NP brochure. Very interesting structure, worth stopping at especially if you head back to Phx this winter.
