I usually prefer colorful color photos over Black & White photography, but I’ll admit it was fun turning these color shots into monochrome images. I’m still using Picasa as my processing platform and thought it would be a good idea to master this easy software program before jumping into something like Lightroom.

I love black and white photos but generally have a hard time getting them “right” – I really think it’s harder than color! Your shots are lovely. And by the way I switched from Picasa to LR and I’ve never looked back. I’m still learning some of the more advanced stuff in LR, but I think it’s been pretty easy to learn. The book I bought to go with it is Lightroom5 by Scott Kelby – it’s great.

Fortunately the Barnes and Noble here has a copy of Scott Kelby’s book and I was able to look at it and yes, once I get Lightroom I will definitely be getting his book. Glad to hear LR is working well for you – your photos have been outstanding. Thanks for the input 🙂

With all of our technologies, editing software, color retouching, and designer photography, there is still something so simple, honest, true and beautiful about black and white photos. These pictures are wonderful!! Some of my own most favorite pictures are black and white!

I actually love black and white photography and the wedding photo is lovely. Hector’s been thinking of getting Lightroom too, he only has Aperture which comes with Apple, but it’s fairly basic. Like you, he found Lightroom to have the best reviews for its price range during his research.

My favorite is the wedding photo. Yep, I think Lightroom 5 is the way to go and I just discovered a great book that may help my huge learning curve. One step at a time 🙂

B&W lends a whole new feel to the moment…these bounce right out at you! You have come a long way with your photography and all self-taught! You have “the eye” for such beauty! I myself, might need to venture away from my new Samsung smartphone, Instragram and PicsArt :O)

Thanks C…… As long as I don’t take my picture taking too seriously, I have a ton of fun with it. I have yet to get involved with Instagram. Probably good I don’t LOL.

B&W has its own niche and sometimes there are moments such as that wedding photo makes it more interesting. But I am still partial to colored pictures.
I’d say move up to Lightroom. There may be a steep learning curve but with thousands of pictures you may have taken (like me), image management is easy, it has logical workflow, organization and search function is strong (when dealing with hundreds of pics), image management is excellent and more. I have never looked back to iPhoto nor Photo Elements.

I was surprised as to how much more I liked that wedding photo in B & W. It seemed to capture the mood of the moment perfectly. As to Lightroom, I hear it’s awesome with image management which I guess I could use but I want to be a little more creative like when my friend put me on one of the arches at Arches NP. I’m not sure if I can do that in Lightroom or if I need Elements….ah, the research continues 🙂

True Elements will put you on the arches not LR. For me, managing my ever growing images is priority and LR has a good database management. Well, that just me, Ingrid 🙂 Your research will help you make that decision of what you need.

I love black and white photography — it can be so dramatic, like the clouds in your landscape photo. The wedding photo is lovely.

Somethings things are just better in black and white, very nicely done.
I use Lightroom and Photoshop Elements. Lightroom does a great initial job of making corrections, cropping, and resizing. I admit I use my Elements for further tweaking, but just because I haven’t taken the time to learn how to do more of it in Lightroom. You know how it is…you stay with what you understand.

I’ve done so much research on both Lightroom and Elements as I’ve toyed with getting one of them. Everyone seems to recommend Lightroom over Elements. Like you, I know there’s a learning curve regardless of which one I go with and I just haven’t been up to the challenge lately….one day 🙂

Thanks Clay…..no my daughter was a bridesmaid. I’m still working on that ‘wedding’ post. The entire bridal party including bride all wore cowboy boots. A true Colorado mountain wedding.
