It’s About the Feel

I’m not a huge fan of Halloween or any of the scary stuff that goes along with it. However, I do enjoy this time of year.

I’m all about fall colors, apple cider, sweet treats, and crisp autumn air.

With that said, I’m not totally adverse to a little eerie or spooky from time to time. Just not the seriously scary or gory stuff.

never alone in the woods

This weeks photo challenge word is “eerie”. I’m not sure if any of these photos truly depict eerie, but they do have a certain feel about them that’s slightly unsettling.

I hope your October has been filled with plenty of colorful leaves, yummy treats, and just the right amount of eerie (or humor) for your taste.

Hello. A fair number of households in my neighborhood are very into Halloween. They decorate their properties lavishly, just as they also do for Christmas.

I love the spider net: excellent picture! But I must admit I don’t care much for the last one. 😉

Enjoy autumn and Halloween, and take care,

Thank you, Pit. That photo was taken near Port A on a foggy morning. It’s just now starting to feel like autumn around here and I’m loving our cooler weather.

Thank you, Kirstin. I’ve tried photographing sprider webs numerous times but with no success. I got lucky with this one and the light.

    Ingrid,

I remember the “Vultures at Sunset” photo from one of your posts in the past and would put it in no less than your top 25. All of your pictures here illustrate Halloween extremely well. Do you get Trick or Treaters in your neighborhood? Our Silver Fox commune would love to have them, but it doesn’t happen, although I buy candy–and eat most of it!

Good memory, Joe. Yes, I’ve posted that sunset photo before. That scene was a rare treat to stumble upon. Thank goodness I was driving and spotted the scene in the distance. As the passanger Al had no choice but to indulge me in that photo-op as I veered off the main road. 😁
I’m not a fan of the whole door bell ringing ‘trick or treating’. So, I’m grateful we’ve never had any trick or treaters in our 55+ community.🎃🎃🎃

They are true artists who carve these pumpkins. It’s always an entertaining display.

Your last photo is both eerie and beautiful! I agree about Halloween decorations – I enjoy some of the fun stuff (we saw some great ones in California which I plan to post soon) but I’m not a huge fan of the holiday on the whole.

I love a moody foggy morning, but that rarely occurs in Arizona. Thus, a trip to the coast is a must from time to time. I look forward to seeing more of your photos from your recent trip to CA.

Great pictures! We always enjoy the carved pumpkins. I heard they moved from Carefree to Vulture City Ghost Town in Wickenburg last season.

Yes, I was sad when they moved the event. I always made the effort to visit it at least a couple of times when it was held in Carefree. So fun and entertaining, and it was because of you that I even knew about it. Hope you get in lots of snuggles with Caleb before returning to AZ.

Halloween can be a fun holiday as long as there are no gory scenes. Your captures are wonderfully creepy, Ingrid! I vote too for that spider web and the barfing jack o’lantern…that is a clever carve! The birds silhouetted against the orange sky is amazing! Glad you could join in for this!

I used to enjoy Halloween when the kids were little when it was all about costumes and candy. As they got older, I was no longer a fan as their interests entered into the scary and gory side of things, but I do love pumpkins, autumn leaves, and lots of treats.

I agree! It seems that generation of kids (now adults) really likes to be scared or startled. We grew up watching The Exorcist and Halloween–NO THANKS!

Can you explain what a mirrorless camera is? I see the two categories on the Nikon website, but haven’t bothered to read what mirrorless is.

            1. Ingrid Avatar

A mirrorless is just that … there’s no mirror inside. And because of that, the cameras are smaller and lighter. I’m sure a Google search could explain it much better than I can.

fabulous photos… Ingrid you have the eye. The colors in Chicagoland and Michigan have been magnificent of late, but soon the gales of November will come calling! The twins arrived Thursday and I held both of them, though not at the same time Friday night. Nothing scary about that! Stay well and enjoy the change of season and the opportunity to get out. Peace.

I always miss this time of year in the Midwest and used to love visiting the Morton Arboretum in fall. But, I do NOT miss the winters. Enjoy the colors while they last and again congratulations.
