I love zooming in on a subject. Quite often via macro photography I see details in a subject that I didn’t notice with my naked eye. Many a time, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the results of a photo once I’m able to view it on my computer. For instance this Rose….
I adore Roses and I knew shooting after a recent rain that the petals might still be wet. I was hoping to capture a Rose with clinging droplets but couldn’t see the raindrops all that clearly on the camera screen. I was pleasantly surprised once I uploaded the photos to the computer that I actually captured my vision.
Last summer while strolling around the James Robb State Park in Grand Junction, Colorado I noticed a bunch of dragonflies. With my camera slung cross body, I was ready for them to fly off once I raised the camera to my face. To my delight, many were so busy with breakfast that they weren’t bothered by my presence.
This dragonfly allowed me to get incredibly close. Doesn’t he have the cutest face? It has so much personality.
And speaking of personality, Rosie the Roseate Spoonbill and I shared a moment. It was an early January morning in Port Aransas, Texas when I went out for a stroll and happened to come across Rosie sitting on a fence rail. We spent at least 15 minutes visiting with each other.
I returned to the same place several times in hopes of a repeat, to no avail. Any spoonbills that were in the area stayed a safe distance away from people. My morning with Rosie still remains a birding highlight.
In preparation for our long drive east, last week I was busy in the kitchen baking and cooking up a storm. I stocked the RV freezer with healthy meals and treats.
These chocolate chip cookies are baked with Almond Flour and thus packed with protein and considered Paleo. Not only are they yummy, but they provide a nice energy boost. Yes, a healthy cookie 🙂
So the last couple of days, we’ve been on the road. Saturday morning we bid farewell to Colorado and today we say hello to Illinois…… to visit family and eat LOTS of this……
Ah, not to worry, September will find us back in Colorado just in time for fall colors and spending more time hanging with our daughter. I’m already looking forward to it.

I also love the details you can find in a photography when you are taking a close shot. I quite like the water drops on the rose petal and the cute hummingbird is so nice ! 🙂 I’m a fan of your hummingbird pictures, I think you have posted some a few weeks ago ? right ?

Nice job on the close-up challenge Ingrid. Your story of Rosie reminded me of a special moment I once shared with a Brown Pelican. He swooped down into the empty seat beside me & we shared a lovely half day on an airboat ride through the Florida Everglades. My hubby took great photos of my little friend & me.

Oh my…. how fun was that! While we were in Galveston, we noticed a lot of the Brown Pelicans weren’t skittish, but to sit next to you? That had to be something. Definitely a special and memorable moment 🙂

Awe, thank you Sue. Now that you told me about your new camera, when I look at your posts/photos, I’m trying to determine which camera you used. Unfortunately, WordPress degrades the photos so much, it isn’t always obvious. I know it’s a fun camera and you’re probably enjoying it.

We are still busy using a combination of cameras including my iPhone. Typically anything that involves us being on the move, cycling or adventure it’s one of the point and shoots or my iPhone. Even when using the Sony, the other is often snapping with another as back up. Can you say ‘too many photos’? 🙂

I primarily use my iPhone for Instagram and Twitter photos when we travel. Easier to post on the road.

Great photos! I love macro photography for the same reasons you mentioned. What an exciting life you lead, traveling around. My husband and I want to take my daughter on a great american roadtrip once she’s old enough (not any time soon, she’s only half a year old, haha) and I like reading about your adventures. I don’t know if I’d be brave enough to get so close to animals and insects though! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. Yes, your daughter is a little on the young side to hit the road, but they grow way too fast so enjoy this phase. We started tenting with the kids when our daughter was 3 and son almost 6. There are so many great trailers out there now set up for kids that I think we would have traveled more if we’d had one of those.
Getting close to animals and insects? That’s what zoom lenses are for 🙂

Thanks Pit. The zoom on my camera is equivalent to a 600mm lens, which helps. But the hummingbird came into a feeder that I was sitting only ten feet away from. I kept very still and at the ready. Took patience on my part, but so worth it.

Thank you Clay. Unfortunately, we won’t make it to MI this year, focusing our time visiting with my dad in IL and a dear friend in WI. We ended up having to rearrange plans, which I don’t really mind. Today I’m sitting in Starved Rock SP trying to adjust to the humidity….. AND bugs!
