Leaf Peeping

Ah, October! The month of fall colors, apple picking, pumpkin spice, and all things nice.

enjoying fall leaves

I grew up in the Midwest and leaf peeping was one of my favorite things to do during this time of year.

Leaf peeping is the activity of traveling to see and photograph the changing colors of fall foliage. It is a popular Autumn recreational activity in the United States and Canada.

The cool crisp air of autumn along with the colorful array of leaves is always welcome after a long hot summer.

Autumn is amazing. Its colors make me feel better immediately. I love walking in the forest or in the park, in my warm woolen cardigan. I feel incredibly nice and comfortable then, especially if the weather is sunny.

I totally agree … autumn is amazing and I too love walking in nature with a brisk chill in the air.

The second photo is the best. Reminds me of when I was a kid, diving into piles of leaves. I remember their crisp texture, and the smell of leaves and twigs.

That photo was taken in Sedona, AZ during a mother/daughter getaway. Such a fun and memorable trip, and we actually found fall colors along a creek away from all the red rock.

These are beautiful. I love leaf peeping. We live in the PNW, but in 2022 we went to the NE states for 10 days and it was gorgeous.

We moved west in the 90s, and although I loved living in Colorado, I always missed the fall foliage found east of the Mississippi River. The upper Midwest and Northeast sure know how to put on a show of autumn color as you well know. 🍂🍁🍂

The autumn colors rarely disappoint pretty much across the U.S., different as they may be! Happy Fall enjoying all your favorites as much as I enjoyed you photos.

Lovely fall-color photos. Trees in our town have shifted from green to yellow. Soon the golds and reds will follow and I’ll set out to capture the season in all her glory.

Lucky you to be able to enjoy fall colors in your neighborhood. Around here, I need to go in search of hints of fall unless I want to take the 2+ hour drive to the high country… which I may end up doing in a couple of weeks.

I love nature’s kaleidoscope of fall colors! We’re enjoying this season of change immensely as we’re closing out our camping season at our family’s favorite lake in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. The falling acorns scoring direct hits on the roof of the RV during the night – those I could do without. 😊 Love your photo of the tree-lined road, Ingrid! Enjoy your upcoming colors and cooler temps!

Hi Mary, glad you’re home and enjoying one last camping trip before winter arrives. Hope you’ll share some of your fall colors as I am truly missing leaf peeping this year. Perhaps I’ll hop in the truck for the 2+ hour drive to higher elevations at the end of the month in search of fall foliage.

    Hi Ingrid! Great pictures!
The leaves are just beginning to turn here in Pennsylvania. They are late this year due to a warm September and October. We need some cold nights. I think that might happen this week.
Hope you can enjoy some Pumpkin Spice deliciousness!

Hi Nancy. Hope you’ll be hanging around the lake house long enough to witness fall at her finest. I’m thinking about driving up to the high country later this month in search of color. In the meantime, I think I’ll need to settle for a pumpkin spice latte for fall inspiration. It’s still incredibly hot around here.

    Ingrid,

The Fall colors is Steph’s favorite, and this year we got to drive over Independence Pass at close to peak color and it was beautiful and even got to see some Big Horn Sheep. Wish you were here!! Hugs, Dick and Steph

I have not driven over Independence Pass in years. Oh, how I’d love to see it during the fall. I’m sure it was spectacular. One of these summers, we’ll need to come visit you again. 🙂🍂🌵

    Hi, Ingrid,

Your pictures of the leaves in the Midwest have me yearning for Fall. I understand that the leaves are beginning to turn in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and I am eager to see them. Unfortunately, many of the roads are closed (or destroyed) after the floods of Helene, and it may take a year to repair them. Nevertheless, it’s that time of the year–the Dogwoods are turning red at our elevation. Have a great week!

Hi Joe. I’m sure fall is beautiful in TN. Hopefully your area wasn’t effected by that devasting storm. Even though you won’t be leaf peeping in the Smokies, I hope you enjoy plenty of color in your neighborhood. I look forward to tagging along on your next RV excursion. 🙂🍂

Hi Egidio. Like you, I’ll need to wait until November (late Nov) before we see any color change. With that said, I usually have to make a concentrated effort to go in search of those trees. I’ll be happy with cooler temps for now. 🙂🌵🍂

Hi Ingrid and happy October! I love all of your leaves and tree shots. The one of you enjoying throwing then into the air is priceless! I plan to do some leaf-peeping myself this week near home and when we leave (pun intended) for our trip later this week!

I can imagine that you miss autumn these days, with the Phoenix heat back on! Great to see your post and stunning images!

Thank you Terri and thank you for confusing my daughter for me. Ah, to be thirty years younger 😁 Yes, we are still experiencing extreme heat, but November is just around the corner. We probably won’t see any leaves change color around here until the end of Nov beginning of Dec and I intend to be ready for them. 🍂 Happy leaf peeping!
