No Words Necessary!

Falls colors in Wisconsin at Lake Namekagon

Fall is definitely in the air and the trees are popping with more color every day. I’m loving it and have been out exploring at every opportunity. No words are necessary to describe the beauty of autumn found here in northern Wisconsin.

These photos were taken this past week when colors were said to be 30-50%. Every day, more leaves are changing and peak color around here should be the first week in October. Hopefully the weather will cooperate in which case, I’ll be one happy photographer, and if the weather doesn’t agree, I’ll still be a happy camper surrounded by such a beautiful landscape.

Lens-Artist Photo Challenge #116 – Symmetry

I haven’t engaged in a photo challenge in a very long time and I miss participating. So for this week’s challenge, Patti asks us to focus on images that represent symmetry. The above image has that feel of symmetry.

    1. I can only image the kaleidoscope of color seen in the north east. Understandable why you’d miss it. I’m getting in my fill of autumn foliage and loving every minute.

  1. Gorgeous photos, Ingrid. You sure are in a pretty part of the world. And I love the accompanying quotes – particularly the Monet. We live on a street lined with Ginkgo trees that will turn a spectacular yellow this month. And then one day, after a frost, they all fall at once. It’s wonderful. 🙂 Thanks for a beautiful preview of Fall. ~Terri

    1. Thank you Terri. I’ve really enjoyed being in the upper Midwest for fall colors, but temps are getting cold around here and we’ll be ready to roll soon. The Monet quote is one of my favorites as well. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 😊

  2. Beautiful pictures. Love the water reflections. I feel like I haven’t experienced fall in such a long time. Usually, this time of year we are in Atlanta fall hasn’t quite arrived yet. Then as fast as we can we are off to warmer climates. The trees are lovely. It is very nice to be reminded of the beauty of Autumn.

    1. It has been nearly 30 years since we’ve experienced a ‘real’ fall and it did not disappoint. But the cold, gloomy weather is a reminder of why we moved away from the Midwest. Almost time to hit the road!

  3. Your photos remind me so much of our time at our lake house in Maine. While Maine doesn’t have as many trees that turn color, the first of October looked very similar. Then we would head home to our orchard in New Hampshire for a real burst of fall color. Your photos are beautiful and I thank you for reminding me of our yours spent in New England. Enjoy every moment before you head back south.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. Yes, the colors around the upper Midwest rival the Northeast, and I’m savoring every minute as I know this won’t last much longer. I’m hoping to go apple picking this weekend if the weather holds out. Fingers crossed we won’t get rained out 🍏🍁🤞

  4. We don’t get those glorious colours occurring naturally here in Western Australia. Some, including myself, plant a tree or two that will add a touch of an autumn colour palette, but it’s not the same as a natural forest getting ready for a cold, cold winter. Stunning photos Ingrid.

    1. Thank you Chris. We don’t get this variety of color in America’s west and I’ve missed being back in the Midwest part of the country during autumn colors. It has been a joy, but we’ll be heading south before too long. Winters around here can be brutal.😊

  5. Such beautiful colours! We only have one native deciduous tree in Tasmania, a small beech called fagus that only grows in a few alpine areas. Many of our city parks have english trees though but nothing like what you have photographed here!

    1. I’ve spent the past 20+ years living in the western part of the U.S. where there are mostly pine and aspen trees, thus mostly yellow and green color in the fall. It has been a joy to be back in the Midwestern part of the U.S. where we see a beautiful kaleidoscope of colors due to the variety of trees. I’m savoring every moment as I know it won’t last long before cold and wind strip the leaves.

  6. Perfect title! So glad you are out there enjoying the fall colors. At least we are enjoying them through your beautiful photographs!
No need to rush back to the southwest, it is still hot here and we had no rain at all!

    1. The saguaro will not be looking happy this winter with the lack of moisture. I think this is the second summer in a row with no monsoon. 😥 Not good!
I still have a few more places I want to explore for autumn photo-ops and then I’ll be ready to head ‘home’ … hopefully the temps will stay under 100 by the time I get there.

    1. This week the weather isn’t cooperating. Although the leaves are gorgeous, the lighting hasn’t been good for photography. Fingers crossed I have better luck in a few days.

  7. OMG – loving the Fall colors – great pics – love!!! We are finally cooling down a bit here and pretty soon everything will be in bloom again. Been working on putting in the garden and should have green beans soon enough – cannot wait. The limes coming off our tree have been great too. Happy Day – Enjoy 🙂

    1. Oh, how I love freshly picked limes. I’m trying to talk my sister-in-law (the one that recently moved to Phoenix) into planting a lime tree, and if I knew Al and I would return to WI every summer, I would help this SIL plant a veggie garden. Then I’d have plenty of fresh stuff summer and winter 😁

    1. It’s incredibly beautiful and I’m so glad we decided to stay in northern Wisconsin a little longer this season. Fingers crossed I get some cooperative weather. This week doesn’t look to favor a photographer 😏

    1. I’m savoring every fine weather day for leaf-peeping. I love those days with very little wind and do my best to take advantage of those cooperative days. Two more weeks before we head south!

    1. Yes, we are in a great spot. Personally, I feel Wisconsin and Michigan rival the northeast when it comes to fall colors, but I’m probably a little biased.😏

    1. I will miss it only until the leaves drop and then I can’t drive back to the southwest fast enough 😆 Since we aren’t leaving until the 12th, I’m hoping to get in lots more photo outings.🤞

    1. I’ll need to take note of fall at the North rim. I’m still trying to figure out my timing around AZ. I have a pretty good handle on CO and the seasons/elevation. I’ll be sure and stop by your blog for autumn photos.

  8. Hi Ingrid, Your heading photo is stunning! And, like you mention, peak colour is still to come. Claude Monet’s quote resonates with me. We just returned home from camping at Long Beach, West Coast of Vancouver Island. Restoring and replenishing my spirit. A beautiful post!

    1. Those rejuvenating camping trips are the best. There’s a part of us that wanted to pack our tent and gear and load up the canoe and camp on an island this summer, but the comfort of the RV was too appealing to give up for tenting 😆 I thought Claude Monet’s quote summed up my feelings nicely … plus, he one’s of my favorite artists. In our sticks and bricks, I had some of his prints hanging on our walls (inexpensive prints purchased from the Chicago Art Institute).

    1. It’s a great time of year to allow nature to awe us. Living in the west for so many years, I’ve missed seeing a ‘real’ autumn. I’m savoring every minute while it lasts!

  11. Gorgeous photos. The first, with the mirror image on the lake, is my favorite, but they are all beautiful and perfectly capture the feel of autumn. Hope you get plenty more blue skies and sunshine to capture it all!

    1. Thank you Laura. I have my fingers crossed that the weather will hold out. We’re supposed to have a mix of rain, wind, and cold … not favorable for autumn foliage photography, but I’ll take what I can get 😀

  12. Hi, Ingrid. I agree. The last shot with the road bisecting the woods is a great example of symmetry. I also love all your fall colors! We’re at the same stage of fall colors here in NH. Enjoy the season!

    1. I’m sure NH is exploding with color. Having lived in the west for so many years, I’m loving being back in the Midwest to enjoy this time of year. I’m glad to hear that the last image fits the photo challenge. I struggled slightly finding a photo that I thought would fit.

    1. I’m just hoping the leaves stay on the trees during peak color. If a major storm with high winds blows through, I’m not sure how many leaves will remain. Fingers crossed that I have another great week.🍁

Fall colors are about a month away in our East Tennessee mountains so, thanks for giving us a preview. Your pictures are sensational. Even though we have the same camera, your clarity and sharpness is so much better. I want another lesson. Stay safe. Joe

      1. I’m sure once we start heading south, we’ll see fewer fall colors. Ah, you are too hard on yourself. I’ll admit, I’ve been struggling with the FZ300 myself. Many of the images aren’t as sharp or clear as I expect and I know my focus and settings should be spot on. It’s been frustrating especially when my iPhone 8+ occasionally outperforms the Panny. With that said, you know where to find me for another photo session 😀
