Derailed Goals and Being Interviewed

cow in a fog

The last week of January passed in a blur and not in a good way. Talk about a wasted week. The majority of my time was spent on the couch hugging a box of kleenex while watching daytime TV. Although the severe head cold made normal function difficult, my brain was further negatively impacted by the TV watching. After a week of watching daytime TV, I’m sure I have some fried brain cells causing my IQ to drop dramatically. Seriously, who watches this stuff?

I was so ill that I didn’t even turn my computer on for three full days. I know! That meant I was really really sick. I’ll admit, I did use my iPhone to try and stay somewhat connected, but even that was more effort than my ailing mind and body could handle.

I’m finally on the mends … but slowly.

So much for New Year’s goals/resolutions

Ah, the month started out so well. I was focused. I was hitting the trails and getting in my steps. I was eating healthy.  Yep, 2020 was off to a great start. And then … the pain in my left foot (that I’d been ignoring) continued to worsen. Turned out to be a textbook case of Plantar fasciitis. Okay, I got this … nothing I can’t fix!

With new shoe inserts and some at-home therapy, I was ready to jump back into hiking … slowly. Plans were made with friends and I was eager to get back to that list of goals. That is until I was knocked between the eyes with the worst head cold that I’ve experienced in years. My life came to a screeching halt.

This too shall pass, and with each day, I begin to feel a little more like me again. I’ll give myself the time to fully recover before I start jumping back into active life. The TV remains off as I once again feel brain function returning. Now I’ll need to focus on recovering those lost brain cells.🥴 I hope to do that by getting caught up with you all.

Being interviewed

On a lighter note, before I fell ill, I was interviewed. How cool is that! Doing the interview was actually fun and has once again piqued my interest in doing more of my own videos. Baby steps, I remind myself!

My interviewer: Debbie, “From She to Me“. I first met Debbie and her husband last year via her brother, Dick. Dick and his wife were our winter neighbors last year, and they are also the couple who generously offered us a place to stay last summer while we dealt with our storage units back in Colorado.

I hope you enjoy Debbie’s video. Oh, and if you’re thinking about Van Life or heading up to Alaska, be sure and check out her other videos. BTW – My interview starts about five minutes in – 5:34. Enjoy!

  1. Bummed we missed out on a few get-togethers but we’ll catch up again in March. Mine must have been allergies since it never developed beyond a day of sneezing. I hope you’re feeling better by now.

    1. I’m so glad it was merely allergies. This cold is nasty and hanging on. Others have said it took almost a month to recover 😥 Looking forward to getting together again upon your return to the valley.

  2. I loved your video and your stories! I’m hoping by now you are fully recovered and living and laughing your awesome life again. As you can tell by my delayed response…I have been crazy busy and this has only been the second time this year that I have even stopped to read any blogs. But it’s all good…project house is moving along very well and perhaps I will do another video but for now there is too much work clutter to try and do it.

    1. Thank you! I figured you’ve been tied up with that huge remodel. Quite the undertaking. I’m still fighting the tail end of a cold, but those desert wildflowers are calling my name. I doubt I can remain on the couch much longer 😎🌵📷

  3. Great interview, Ingrid. Personally, I think you are as much of a writer as you are a photographer. Waiting for your next video to pop up in my feed. Take care.

    1. Thank you so much Linda. I have a ton of video ideas swirling in my head, but that’ll all have to wait until I’m totally over this cold. The nagging cough is driving me crazy 🥴

  4. What a great interview Ingrid. I know exactly what you were going through being sick. It’s hit a lot of us this year. I said the same thing when it happened…what a waste of time. Then again, at least I had the time to do nothing and not worry about a business per se.

    1. It is wonderful not having to deal with a business while being sick. I’ve been able to just lay around and give my body the rest it needs. I am getting impatient though and with the wonderful weather, I’m antsy to get out and about. 😊

  5. I might have mentioned I got a cold the day after we returned from our travels, Ingrid. It wasn’t bad but sure sapped my energy and motivation. Luckily, I had another week to recover before classes began. Great interview and I’m happy you found good foot support and you are back at it. BTW, that photo of the steer is lovely!

    1. Thank goodness you had time to recover before heading back to work. Glad your cold wasn’t as bad as mine. This is taking me awhile to kick. A lot longer than I’d hoped.
I’ve been going through an external hard-drive and it has been fun discovering some forgotten images like the one of the steer.

    1. Those look like great flip-flops. I found some Reef flip-flops with arch support that I wear around the RV as my slippers and they’ve helped. Thanks!

  6. Congratulations on your great interview. It was just after I read your blog that I got a notice of a new video post from She to Me. I subscribe to Debbie’s YouTube Channel also.

    1. Thank you. Last year when I first met Debbie, she hadn’t reached 1,000 subs yet. It has been fun watching her channel grow. Great people!

  8. Glad to hear you are on the mend, Ingrid. I always feel it takes courage to be part of a video, up there on the public speaking fear. Great interview! Interesting how you reinforce the documentation and photography as a way of keeping track of our life. You come across very natural in the interview. Good luck on the Plantar fasciitis improvement.

    1. Thank you Erica. The foot is doing much better and now I’m waiting for this cough to improve. I’m totally unable to speak on a public stage but this video stuff doesn’t seem to bother me much … as long as I don’t think about the hundreds of people that may watch 😏

  9. Oh dear, hope you continue to feel better. I too, deal with plantar fasciitis and it can be nasty! Fingers crossed you can resume your normal pace in no time💕

  10. So sorry to hear that you got derailed, first by plantar fascitis and then by a terrible cold. 😦 Glad you’re starting to feel better. Take it easy getting back to normal life (except you can quit the daytime TV shows cold turkey, LOL!).

    1. Haha! Yeah, that daytime TV is really something … and not in a good way. Each day gets a little better. It’s so tough being housebound when the weather is near perfect. We have a cold front rolling in so I won’t feel too bad being stuck at home for another week.

  11. Glad you’re starting to feel better. I agree with you on the daytime TV thing – it’s painful. I would suggest, as an alternative, finding a good Netflix or Amazon series that you can just watch straight through. There are a lot of good ones out there. Alternatively, the number of videos on Youtube that capture goats doing adorable things is basically limitless and is guaranteed to make every aspect of life better. 🙂

    1. A series would’ve been too much for my muddled brain at the time but goats doing adorable things sounds workable. Certainly better than hearing women talk about the side effects of silicone butt injections. Seriously, who finds freakishly huge *sses attractive? I didn’t even know this was a thing, and quite frankly, I wish I was still ignorant on that the subject. 🤣🍹

  12. I love your cactus photo! With all the winter moisture this year, I’m hoping for a nice spring bloom! Sorry you were ill, being bedridden like that is the worst thing. Glad you’re better.

I’ve said this before regarding your previous videos, you are a natural in front of the camera! You don’t appear self-conscious about it, just like you are carrying on a normal conversation! I imagine it is a big time commitment to do videos though. Personally, I just can keep up with my blog 🙂

    1. That’s my problem with adding video to the mix. It’s tough enough for me to keep up with writing the blog let alone doing video. My heart will always remain with still photography but adding a little video here and there for fun might enter into the mix. Time will tell!

  13. I feel for you with a bad cold as I hate them but as often as you seem to get a cold, maybe you should spend your winters alone in the desert or wear a hazmat suit when around others 🙂 Way cool to be interviewed for another’s blog and you came off very well – just like I remember you.

  15. Head colds are the worst! So glad you are feeling better. I only have a few minutes before I have to do something else so I will watch the interview later. I’m sure it will be great!

    1. Yeah, this cold really knocked me down and has taken longer to recover than I expected. What made things even worse was the incredibly perfect weather we had all week while I laid inside on the couch.

  16. Being ill enough to watch daytime TV is really sick. I’m sorry you had to deal with that. That’s a really great interview.

    1. Thank you, Tim, and yes, I was really sick or I would’ve been on my computer. Your sympathy in my plight is appreciated 😄 Watching daytime TV makes one question the intellect of the people who regularly watch this stuff cause obviously someone watches.😵

      1. Unfortunately, I believe a lot of people watch daytime TV. Sad to think of all the time spent on watching TV. With my ADD, I can hardly watch a full-length movie. The last time we flew to France, I started 12 movies and was only able to finish 1 movie during the 9 hour flight. I think I got through 2 movies during the 11-hour flight from Paris to San Francisco. I have trouble with anything longer that 5 minutes. I fast-forwarded to your interview, watched you interview, and didn’t watch the rest of the video. The length of the interview was longer than I can usually watch, but I wanted to hear what you had to say and at least made it through the interview. I’m bad I know.

        1. Well, I feel special that you stayed around long enough to hear my thoughts. 😘 I’m with you and quite often get bored with movies easily. I’m one of those people who works on multiple projects at the same time bouncing back and forth …. driving my husband crazy in the process 😅
