Wordless Wednesday

I took a lot of photographs last month and while going through them, I realized it really is true; a picture is worth a thousand words.  Here’s a bunch of reasons why we enjoy visiting the Texas Gulf Coast…..Rockport

Running into like minded folks! Although my equipment doesn’t come close, we all share a passion for photography and the birds.
Hearing their wings as they flew over me was exhilarating. I'm ok with the fact that I didn't achieve good focus. They were moving over me relatively fast and I got a little jittery excited. Taken at 300mm and almost no cropping.

  1. I really enjoyed this awesome gallery of photos, Ingrid. You caught some gorgeous birds, marinas, and peaceful scenes, and really brought to life the lovely Gulf coast. The array of birds is dazzling to this birder. A whooper and a sandhill in the same frame is almost unheard of, no wonder you were excited. Thanks so much.

    1. Around here, it’s not uncommon for young whoopers to hang out with the sandhills. Once they start mating, that’s another story. It was exciting to see the variety of birds all in one spot. Definitely the highlight of my trip 🙂

    1. Thank you Holly. So nice to hear from you. Hope you are enjoying that new home of yours. Any trips planned or will you be home bodies for awhile?

    1. Thank you. The wire/post photo is a little out of the ordinary for me and was somewhat of an experiment. It felt very “Texas” to me and I just had to photograph it.

  2. Barb and I HAVE to get over there next year! The picture of the sandhills taking off is very cool but I my favorite is the white bird in the water with it’s beak open. Egret?
We are headed back to Cibola this weekend, hope to get some great pictures!

    1. Yes, that is an egret…. I’m not sure what kind of egret and I hesitate to put a name to it – birder I am not 😆 I look forward to your photos from Cibola taken with the new camera.

    1. I love it when the birds preen and stretch out, but I’m usually to late pulling up the camera to capture some of their funny and unique poses. Entertaining, aren’t they? Hope you’re enjoying plenty of feathered friends in FL.

      1. Ingrid, we’re loving it here! Posts on Florida coming soon (finally!!). 🙂 We’re really wanting to return to Rockport, too — it’s been too long since we’ve been there. It’s been so much fun reading your posts and seeing your photos.

        1. I look forward to your posts on FL. I know just where to launch those kayaks and photograph those birds in the Rockport area. Just let me know, and I’ll share 🙂

    1. There’s quite a few folks running around this part of Texas with these mega lenses and they do weigh a ton. I’m happy with my equipment but appreciate theirs!

  3. I’m convinced! In fact Joe and I have been seriously thinking about spending time in the Rockport this year. We head east this fall… our youngest son and his wife are having their first baby… and we’re thinking a stop there for the month of November/December? What do you think Ingrid…all my reading says Nov is Whooping Crane Month and a good time to go.

And yes, a picture is worth a thousand words!

    1. The cranes usually show up in November thus timing should be good. I have a long post going out on Saturday with links to a few of my previous posts sharing more info on the area including camping. I think you’ll find it helpful. Also feel free to email me anytime. BTW…. we’ll be in Phoenix next week and stay until mid April so let me know if you’re plans include Phx.

    1. Thanks Susie. Most of these photos were taken with a Panasonic FZ200 but I use a couple others as well. I have a “camera” tab/page sharing what I use.

  4. One word…gorgeous:) Your captions were so clever; had me giggling. The finding babes photo and downward dog were perfect!! Love the dock and boat reflection.

    1. With the exception of the marina photo, which was taken in Corpus, all the rest were taken in Rockport – Fulton. The first photo was taken off Fulton Beach Road. I love this little community.

    1. Believe it or not, it’s not uncommon to see those mega lenses in this area. There’s some serious bird photographers around here. Some of the photos these folks capture are stunning, but I’m happy with my simple gear 🙂

  5. I love the photo of the Sandhills taking off, Ingrid. The ‘tracks’ large birds leave in the water with their feet always fascinate me, as it looks like a runway. 🙂

    1. It doesn’t take much for those birds to become a passion. They are fascinating, interesting, and addictive from the way they take off and land to the foot prints they leave behind 🙂
